An overview of the Gallinas River and its fishes. The Gallinas River drains the valley of Rascon in the Panuco River drainage in San Luis Potosi, Mexico and contains an unique fish fauna comprised of eleven native fish species, eight of which are endemic to this river.
Ameca splendens is a goodeinae endemic to highland areas or the Jalisco state of Mexico, where currently only two small populations are known. The conservation status of this species is in critical situation.
