fin formula
Count of the spines and rays of fin, usually provided with in a scientific description of a fish species; the number of spines is shown in Roman numerals whereas the number of rays in Arabic numerals, preceded by abbreviation of a fin, e.g. D, XIV+10 for dorsal fin with fourteen spines and ten rays.
