" The Notropis calientis complex is defined to include N. calientis/ and two new species, N. amecae and N. aulidion. These live, respectively, in the upper reaches of the Rio Ameca and Rio Mezquital basins. They are diagnosed on the basis of anal-fin rays, pored lateral-line scales, gill rakers, body shape, pigmentation and morphology of the jaws. A key is provided to help distinguish the members of the N. calientis complex from all other shiners south of latitude 240N, the northern extent of the complex "
