" A comparison of the colour patterns of two collections of Characodon laterais "Los Berros" is made. Fishes from collection 1 stemmed from an American stock and were brought to Europe by Ivan DIBBLE in 1981. Those fish are believed to have been originally collected in the "Ojo de Agua de San juan" by Metcalf, but this designation obviously needs further investigation. Collection 2 was made by Isabel and Hermann MücK in the "Ojo de Agua Los Berros" in 2005, about two kilometres away from the collection site of population 1. Fish from the second collection differ from the ones of the first in that they display a much more prominent lateral row of black spots and also a greater diversity in colour patterns. While population 1 has a green body with red colouration on the lower part of the caudal peduncle and the belly, the intensity of the red and green colouration in fish from population 2 differs. Population 2 consists of a) highly coloured specimens, b) fish which lack green and red colouration and c) intermediate forms - while the colour pattern·s in population 1 only differ to a very small degree. So do the colour patterns of the unpaired fins, which in population 1 and in intensely coloured specimens of population 2 are mainly red, lined with a yellow and a black band on the exterior part of the fins "
