Original description as Poecilia catemaconis:

  • Miller, Robert Rush. 1975. "Five new species of Mexican poeciliid fishes of the genera Poecilia, Gambusia, and Poeciliopsis". Occasional Papers of the Museum of Zoology, University of Michigan. (674):1-44 (ffm04575)

Conservation: Poecilia catemaconis is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species. Poecilia catemaconis is commercially exploited by fishermen in Lake Catemaco (Miller, 1975:18), and although the limited distribution of this species, its resilience is sufficiently high to maintain a stable population.
