Conservation: Poecilia chica is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (DD) data deficient (2018). The species is potentially threatened by destruction, modification, or reduction of its habitat as a result of perturbations caused by factors such as sedimentation, chemical pollution, de-watering, and anthropogenic modifications to natural channels or flow regimes (Maiz-Tome, 2019).
