Conservation: Chiapaheros grammodes is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (VU) vulnerable (2019). The rivers in area of distribution of Chiapaheros grammodes are to our days in good ecological shape, although the impact of the huge Angostura hydroelectric dam which covers most of the extension of the distribution of C. grammodes on its population have not been evaluated to date. The potential impact of the alleged introduction of lower Grijalva cichlid species into the area of distribution of Chiapaheros grammodes, provided it is true, would also have to be evaluated.
