Conservation: Characodon lateralis is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (CR) critically endangered (2018). Of the more than fifteen known localities where Characodon lateralis has been known to inhabit during the last fifty years, they just remain nowadays in six, and they may disappear very soon from localities where they localities where they remain, all highly vulnerable.
