Conservation: Gambusia alvarezi est évalué par l'Union Internationale pour la Conservation de la Nature dans la Liste Rouge des espèces menacées comme étant (DD) données insuffisantes (1996). Gambusia alvarezi has a very limited distribution in and around Ojo de Agua de San Gregorio, which is found in good shape up to our days (May 2023). The small area of the spring is kept isolated by a fence since the water is used for human consumption.
