An adult of Awaous transandeanus searches for mollusks hidden in the gravel and sand along the current of the Rio Ostuta (Oaxaca). This behavior is typical for the species, moving from side to side while digging its head into the gravel to take a mouthful of sand, which it filters to extract the mollusks and invertebrates it feeds on.
