Papaloapan: Lake Catemaco

Artenschutz: The other times tropical forest areas around Lake Catemaco have nowadays been mostly cut down to allow for cattle raising and agriculture, with the subsequent run-off of fertilizers and pollutants into the lake. These fertilizers however allow for a bigger production of fisheries, with the main capture being the introduced Oreochromis aureus and O. niloticus, but also native species like Vieja fenestrata. A small remaining areas of forest have been preserver in the northern and southern sides of the lake.
