Conservazione: Notropis marhabatiensis è valutata dalle organizzazioni internazionali di salvaguardia delle specie a rischio come (CR) Situazione critica di pericolo (2018). The spring inhabited by Notropis marhabatiensis is highly degraded and used for recreation purposes. The main pool is around 2 m deep and 5 m wide. A small outlet stream runs along 200 m and then discharges into the town’s (Maravatío) waste-water channel. The species is absent from the stream. Only a small population was found in surveys conducted in 2000 and 2002. This small spring is surrounded by the houses of Maravatio and suffers intense human pressure as a recreation and washing place. In recent visits to the area (2004 to 2007), the species was not found (Domínguez Domínguez et al., 2009:166).
