Freshwater Fishes of Mexico was created to raise awareness of Mexico’s extraordinary continental fish diversity and to support their conservation—while also serving as a reliable resource for your research and passion. Many Mexican freshwater fish species are now highly endangered, and some have already vanished. Although our project is young, we are working tirelessly to document the more than 500 freshwater fish species that inhabit Mexico.
So far, we feature 29 genera and 83 full species profiles, with detailed information on taxonomy, distribution, biology, aquarium keeping, and conservation. Each profile is accompanied by a distribution map. New profiles are being added regularly.
Our Mexican Freshwater Fish Catalog includes 3542 photographs, carefully selected for their scientific value and beauty. Most were taken in natural habitats by leading photographers, and many are truly unique. This collection is continuously growing.
