Abstract:

" Priapella olmecae sp. n. (loc. typ. Rio de la Palma, Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz, Mexico) is described as a new taxon. It is closely related to Priapella bonita from the northern upper Rio Papaloapan drainage, Veracruz, Mexico, but differs in fin ray and gill raker counts, body proportions and gonopodium structure. The new species is also compared with Priapella compressa from Palenque Ruinas, Chiapas and Priapella intermedia, Rio Coatzacoalcos system, Mexico. In this study Priapella olmecae sp. n. and Priapella bonita are referred to as sibling species. "
