" This article presents a comprehensive natural history and aquaristic overview of Priapella olmecae, a rare livebearing fish endemic to a highly restricted area of southern Veracruz, Mexico. Integrating published literature with decades of field observations and long-term aquarium experience, the work explores the species’ distribution, habitat preferences, behavior, feeding ecology, reproductive biology, and phylogenetic relationships. Particular attention is given to its ecological specialization, sensitivity to environmental disturbance, and challenges associated with captive maintenance. The article also discusses conservation concerns arising from habitat degradation and population fragility, emphasizing the importance of continued field monitoring and responsible ex situ stewardship for the long-term survival of this distinctive poeciliid.
