Abstract:
" This article provides a comprehensive overview of the biology, ecology, and aquarium husbandry of Xiphophorus montezumae, the Montezuma swordtail. It discusses its limited distribution in the Pánuco River drainage in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, highlighting habitat characteristics, social behavior, and reproductive traits. The article examines taxonomic history, morphological distinctions, and phylogenetic relationships with closely related species such as Xiphophorus continens and X. cortezi. Guidelines for aquarium care emphasize group dynamics, environmental conditions, feeding, and breeding strategies. Additionally, it addresses conservation concerns and the species’ uniqueness among northern swordtails. "
