Hybopsis boucardi may be restricted to the Cuernavaca area, where water extraction and stream pollution have both led to serious problems for the aquatic fauna (Schönhuth et al., 2006:10). H. boucardi is additionally threatened by the introduction of exotic species, mainly rainbow tout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) (Contreras-MacBeath, 2019).
