" The analysis of the ovarian structure of viviparous teleosts, e.g. Goodeidae, and ovarian similarities and differences comparing species, has special importance in the understanding of the events leading to viviparity Generally, reproduction of viviparous teleosts that carry their young in the ovary actually the site of oocyte production, is characterized by the following features: (a) "ovulation of early developmental states into the ovarian lumen, instead of into the coelom as result of the internal position of the germinal epithelium, which lines the ovarian lumen and which do not have contact to the body cavity as in other vertebrates, (b) internal fertilization, and (c) the lack of true oviducts. Thus, these kind of ovaries considerably differ those of those of all other vertebrates gestation. The present article illustrates female reproductive structures in several species of goodeids, i.e. types of ovaries, ovaries during non-gestation, during early, middle and late intraluminal gestation as well as trophotaeniae, extensions of the embryonic gut to the lumen of the ovary, used fol maternal-fetal metabolic exchange. Regarding its unique structure and the manifold functions, the structure of the ovary in viviparous goodeids possesses features that are unique among all vertebrates "
